Design to reflect your PERSONALITY!
As REALTORS, we see A LOT OF HOMES... and our best advice when making renovations, is to AVOID being the "COOKIE CUTTER" house. When homebuyers are shopping around, they may view 5 or even 10 homes in a one day tour. Homes will often start to run together, and its hard, at the end of the day, the be the STAND OUT house that they will remember. GeoDwell says DO be the unique home that is not afraid to show a little personality!
So when designing my new master bath, I took a lot of time to reflect on what my own personal style is. I didn't want to necessarily be influenced by what the "flavor of the day" might be in terms of design trend. I reflected on what truly makes me happy to be in my own home. After often seeing truly fantastic homes during my daily home tours with buyers, I want to always love coming home to my own special place.
What I really like, I've found, is a feeling of being connected to nature. I have a modern inclination, to be sure, but I like to maintain an organic feel when I'm choosing finishes; e.g. warm tones, lots of texture, natural stone, wood grains, etc. It's a delicate balance for me, to reflect clean lines, but without feeling cold in terms of design. I want everything in my home to be "touchable" with a unique appreciation for texture.
As I moved into the selection stage for surfaces, I had a fun time putting together unique choices that would reflect this "natural, organic modern," and in my master bath, I chose what I like to call a "vintage industrial" design theme.
I chose this beautiful Annie Selke Aylin Black 20" x 20" Ceramic Tile as the focal point for my vanity wall. Annie Selke has an amazing collection of ceramic tiles that have the look and feel of textiles. You can check them out at one of my favorite shops https://www.tileshop.com/Search?search=annie%20selke.
I've paired this bold choice, with a more subtle and classic Siberian Pearl brushed Amalfi marble for the base tile in the tub and shower area.
Then, to bring in the "Industrial" part of the "Vintage Industrial" theme, I chose some gorgeous honed black limestone in a hex pattern on the shower floor and in a chevron pattern on the fixtures column and added a column of Copper Core porcelain tile to the shower frame.
Here's a sneak peak of what the combination is looking like! I'm excited to see it come together. It's a work in process, for sure, and certainly an exercise of patience while we live through the renovation, but we're staring to get a glimpse of what we're creating. I hope you're enjoying the process as much as I am! We'd love you comments along the way! And remember... at GeoDwell, we're more than just a Realtor, we're your real estate consultants.
